We’re thrilled to share that Limberlost Place is the cover story of Canadian Architect’s September issue. The feature, written by editor Elsa Lam with photography by Tom Arban and Doublespace Photography, explores the making of this groundbreaking project, designed by Moriyama Teshima Architects in joint venture with Acton Ostry Architects.
As Canada’s first institutional mass timber tower, Limberlost Place sets a new benchmark for sustainable academic design. The article highlights the building’s structural innovations, including a beamless mass timber system developed with Fast + Epp, as well as its net-zero carbon strategies, from natural ventilation through solar chimneys to high-performance prefabricated façades.
Opening to students for the first time this Tuesday at George Brown College’s Waterfront Campus, Limberlost Place will provide a vibrant new home for the School of Architectural Studies and the School of Computer Technology, with dynamic social spaces like the triple-height Learning Commons and double-height Breathing Rooms fostering community, wellbeing, and collaboration.
We’re proud to see Limberlost Place recognized as a project that not only transforms Toronto’s waterfront, but also helps shape the future of sustainable higher education.
