The Guelph Civic Administration Building opened 15 years ago!
Designed by Moriyama Teshima Architects with GBCA, the building is a blend of historical preservation and modern innovation. The project involved the careful integration of two significant historical structures—the 1856 Guelph City Hall and the 1900 Winter Fair Building. The design preserves intricate details such as plaster corbeling, pressed-tin ceilings, and carved wood window casings, while incorporating modern materials and technologies to enhance structural integrity and energy efficiency, meeting LEED Silver standards and significantly reducing operating costs. This thoughtful combination of old and new creates a vibrant civic hub that serves as a one-stop destination for city services and community events.
