Algoma University, Makwa Waakaa’igan Indigenous Centre of Cultural Excellence

Adjacent to the former Shingwauk Indian Residential School, Makwa Waakaa’igan Indigenous Centre of Cultural Excellence transforms the site into a facility for healing, cultural preservation, dialogue, and reconciliation at Algoma University. In partnership with Smoke Architecture, MTA designed a building that provides a safe, welcoming space for cross-cultural learning and teaches the truth about Canada’s residential school system.
