Black Lives Matter
Black Lives Matter at Moriyama & Teshima Architects. We recognize that systemic racism is a reality in Canadian society and that attitudes must change. While our firm’s diverse workforce and inclusive culture reflect our long-standing commitment to creating an atmosphere free of barriers, we also recognize that as a leading architectural firm, we need to do more.
Our firm has identified several channels where we can have a positive impact. To begin, we will be donating to the Black Legal Action Centre, where free legal services are offered to Black residents of Ontario.
Internally, our policies are under review to ensure that we exceed the highest standards. As part of this initiative, Diversity and Inclusion Training will now be a requirement for all current and future staff.
As Black participation is sorely lacking in our industry, Moriyama & Teshima Architects also plans to support the Black Architects and Interior Designers Association in their mission “to champion diversity within the design profession by promoting design excellence, community engagement, and professional development.”
Furthermore, we are committed to investing in an educational initiative for BIPOC communities who wish to pursue careers in architecture.
At Moriyama & Teshima Architects, we believe that promoting diversity is integral to creating designs that reflect our whole society. Putting these words into action is our promise.
