Canada Green Building Strategy

George Brown College welcomed the Honourable Arif Virani, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, along with Julie Dabrusin, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change and to the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, to launch the Canada Green Buildings Strategy.

Canada’s new Green Buildings Strategy aims to enhance energy efficiency in homes and buildings, addressing affordability, the housing crisis, and climate change. Key elements include the $800 million Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program (CGHAP) for low- to median-income Canadians, phasing out oil heating systems in new constructions by 2028, as well as greening federal infrastructure. The strategy is expected to create jobs, reduce emissions, and lower energy costs for Canadians.

This meeting was held at George Brown College’s Waterfront Campus in Toronto, the site of the highly sustainable, tall, mass timber, net-zero carbon emissions Limberlost Place – a project which exemplifies the goals set in this new motion.
