The Mukwa Waakaa’igan Indigenous Centre of Cultural Excellence at Algoma University is the Popular Choice Winner for the 2022 Architizer A+Awards in the Unbuilt Institutional category! Thank you to everyone who cast a vote in favour of this project. We appreciate your support.
Mukwa Waakaa’igan, a joint project with Smoke Architecture, is set to be completed in the fall of 2024 and will serve as a centre of cultural excellence for the country; a place where people of all cultures will be welcomed from around the world to share and learn from and with each other as part of the university’s commitment to creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive place for cross-cultural understanding, teaching, learning, healing, and reconciliation.
We encourage you to visit our website to learn more about the context, vision, and architectural expression of this new heart on the Algoma University campus in Sault Ste. Marie.
