The material selection of Place des Arts (PdA) is an expression of its location. Designed by Moriyama Teshima Architects and Bélanger Salach Architecture, the corten façade cladding will progress through stages of a natural weathering process through oxidization. As the material patinas, rich colours will develop on the surface. The oxidized stone outcroppings that signaled the presence of ore deposits found throughout Northern Ontario’s landscape, live on in this patina of the envelope of Place des Arts’ exterior.
