Place des Arts du Grand Sudbury has been selected as a finalist in the Architizer A+Awards for the Architecture +Teamwork category! This project, designed by Moriyama Teshima Architects and Yallowega Bélanger Salach Architecture (now known as Bélanger Salach Architecture), is the first Francophone multi-disciplinary art centre of its kind in Northern Ontario.
A true collaborative endeavour on all fronts, our firms jointly served as the lead design architects for this project, working with the seven contributing organizations of Regroupement des Organismes Culturels de Sudbury (ROCS). Through sound and informed leadership, the two firms were together able to establish consensus amongst the seven groups, who each brought forth their own unique standpoint as to how the desired arts facility should be formed, to achieve a flexible design that provides services for a wide variety of activities and uses while contributing to the surrounding urban context. What emerged was an intricate interior plan and building design, that promises to benefit the community for generations to come.
