Today is World Wood Day!
Celebrated annually on the vernal equinox (first day of spring), this event raises awareness of the key role wood plays throughout a variety of cultures, ways of life, industries, and craft. Wood design, and specifically the application of mass timber to structural engineering and architecture, are of particular significance to the work we do here at Moriyama Teshima Architects.
This collection of photographs were taken at the construction sites of Limberlost Place (JV with Acton Ostry Architects Inc.) and the new Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF/FEESO) Headquarters – both located in Toronto, use nationally sourced timber materials, and are leading examples of sustainable, mass timber design due to their low levels of embodied carbon throughout the whole building lifecycle.
