The Surrey Civic Centre was completed 10 years ago this month!
Moriyama Teshima Architects and Kasian Architecture, Interior Design and Planning teamed on this exciting project, designing a building that is both striking and civic-minded, and as a result, the winner of an OAA Design Excellence Award. The team was able to facilitate highly interactive discussions with the City of Surrey stakeholders, distilling the conversation takeaways to a few key design drivers that were used to shape the overall look and feel of the new City Hall. A grand central atrium space (dubbed “The City Room”) provides a dynamic connection to government, expressed by a transparent council chamber that opens directly onto the atrium floor, creating an invitation to participate in civic affairs.
“The new City Hall is an iconic piece of architecture that has been purpose-built to serve the community. It is a City Hall that residents can be proud of, and it represents a milestone in Surrey’s transformation into the region’s next great metropolitan centre.”
