The Science Research Building at the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus defines the school’s inter-and multi-disciplinary approach to scientific education, bringing together in research ‘clusters’ toxicologists, micro biologists, environmental chemists, plant cell biologists and developmental psychologists. This creates a dynamic synergy that reinforces the university’s cutting edge thinking on forward-thinking scholarship. Graduate student work areas are integrated within state-of-the-art, adaptable laboratories filled with natural light. The building houses numerous flexible dry and wet laboratories, faculty and graduate student offices, offices, workspaces, lounges, meeting rooms and a 250-seat lecture theatre.
Overlooking the adjacent ravine, the building is an extension of the original iconic John Andrews Science Wing, respecting the UTSC master plan, matching existing built patterns, and linking old and new through interior pedestrian streets. Exterior cladding materials such as Indiana Limestone, wood and glass continue as interior surfaces connecting the outside to inside.
