In recognition of Ontario Heritage Week, we at Moriyama & Teshima Architects reflect back on the many projects we have undertaken over years that strived to conserve, restore, and celebrate historically significant architecture within the province.

Our approach to working within the existing fabric, with respect to site, building form, and often, original structure, is a hallmark of our adaptive reuse approach to sustainable design. This has always been, and continues to be, a key aspect of our design ethos; a fundamental respect for land, nature, site and context.

We have carefully integrated new structures and technical and functional updates into the restored heritage fabric of a variety of building types. Some projects shown here include the Ryerson Centre for Urban Innovation (Toronto – addition to downtown Heritage School of Pharmacy), Humber College Building G (Toronto – renovation and expansion of historic Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital), the Niagara Falls History Museum (Niagara Falls – conversion of Old Stamford Town Hall), and the Guelph Civic Administration Complex (Guelph – 1800’s Guelph City Hall and 1900 Winter Fair Building).
