National Indigenous History Month

This June we reflect, appreciate, and learn as we celebrate National Indigenous History Month. This is a time to honour the diverse cultures, traditions, and resiliency of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples throughout history.

Currently in design, the Under One Sky Friendship Centre Awitigati Longhouse & Cultural Centre will be a new 21,000 SF centre designed by Fathom Studio and Moriyama Teshima Architects, and will offer over 30 programs and services that are community oriented in health, education, arts, culture, and events. As part of Canada’s Green and Inclusive Community Buildings program, Awitgati will meet net-zero carbon building design standards as well as the highest standards in Canada for accessibility.

We are honoured to be working with our Indigenous partners to design spaces that are unapologetically representative of their culture and serve as safe and celebratory spaces.
