Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation HQ Construction
A major milestone in the course of building the new Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation Headquarters in Toronto has been revealed!
Watch as, over the course of 1 month, the original facility was thoughtfully deconstructed to make way for our project with Fast + Epp (structural design), Integral Group (mechanical and electrical design), Matrix Solutions Inc. (civil engineering), Kasian Architecture Interior Design and Planning (interiors), Strange Colour (wayfinding), FORREC (landscape architecture) and Eastern Construction Company Limited (construction).
A high-performance building requires consideration of long-term operations and use, of which the previous Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF/FEESO) facility did not offer. This transformative process will result in a facility of improved environmental and financial sustainability through mass timber construction, geothermal heating and cooling, solar PV, rainwater harvesting, natural ventilation, enhanced stormwater management systems, daylight harvesting and landscape naturalization. The new Ontario Headquarters will utilize Net-Zero Carbon and WELL strategies, currently targets LEED Platinum certification, and will provide a healthy place to work for a greener century to come.
This phase was the first of many environmentally conscious procedures to be executed during the completion of this project. 97.4% of the total demolition waste was diverted from landfill!
We appreciate BTY Group (project manager and construction camera operations) for providing us with this action-packed video footage captured during the winter of 2021.
