Please join us in congratulating MTA Senior Associate Mohammed al Riffai, who has been named a Fellow with the Royal Architectural Institute Of Canada!

Following graduation from Carleton University Architecture (where he received the Alpha Rho Chi Medal and the Henry Marshall Tory Scholarship), Mohammed co-founded an independent design studio and pursued an art practice, culminating in multiple Canadian and International art exhibitions and residencies. Mohammed’s commitment to sustainable design principles and innovative construction developed in this period as his studio work investigated emerging techniques for stressed skin envelopes, passive solar strategies, and seasonal thermal storage.
He joined Douglas Cardinal & Associates in 2007 where he learned about the rich traditions and inspiring narratives of indigenous culture and developed his appreciation of organic architecture, working closely with engineers to create unorthodox structures.

He joined Moriyama and Teshima Architects in 2012, where his dedication to sustainable design principles and innovative construction guided the concept and development of an extraordinary world-class museum in Dubai, the Etihad Museum. More recently, Mohammed was instrumental in the design of the Canada Pavilion at Expo 2020, also in Dubai, a highly dynamic and symbolic structure.

RAIC Fellowship is bestowed upon individuals who have achieved professional eminence in the architecture industry and who have rendered distinctive service to the community through their craft. Our team is extremely proud of Mohammed’s successes and accomplishments, and will look forward to seeing him officially inducted at this year’s ceremony.
