John Blakey

It is with great sadness that Moriyama & Teshima Architects shares the passing of John Blakey, a leader at our firm for 44 years. Having joined in 1970, John was responsible for the contract documents for many of MTA’s award-winning projects including the Toronto Reference Library, Bata Shoe Museum, Guelph River Run Centre, Canadian War Museum, Aga Khan Museum, and Surrey City Hall. His vast knowledge and experience in the field of construction, his understanding of building science and cost implications, and his ability to detail cost-effective, yet aesthetically and technically sound projects, was invaluable.

Johnny B (as he was known by his colleagues) was a strong, intelligent, and effective teammate. He was a caring, amicable, and courteous friend. He made a deep and lasting impression on everyone he worked with. John had a sharp wit and sometimes would share his views with wonderfully sarcastic comments. He will be deeply missed by all of us.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Michael’s Foundation in support of St. Michael’s Hospital and Providence Healthcare.
