MTA and Fathom Studio Selected to Design Awitgati Indigenous Longhouse & Cultural Centre

We are happy to share that Moriyama & Teshima Architects in joint venture with Fathom Studio have been selected to design the Awitgati Indigenous Longhouse & Cultural Centre in Fredericton, New Brunswick. A project led by Under One Sky, a registered non-profit organization providing programs and services, educating, advocating for, and empowering a healthy and proud Indigenous community, this new facility will celebrate Indigenous peoples and culture while providing community-oriented programming in health, education, arts, culture, and events.

MTA and Fathom have assembled a team of expert advisors including Two Row Architects (TRA) and Wabanaki Tree Spirit to help integrate Indigenous knowledge and culture into the design of the building and site. When complete, it will provide over 30 programs and services to address the following thematic priorities: 1. Health and Families; 2. Education, Skills, and Training; 3. Arts, Culture, and Indigenous Knowledge; and 4. Gather, Community, Celebrate. Awitgati will be a public space for intercultural dialog, reconciliation, and learning for all.
