This June marks 50 years since the grand opening of the Scarborough Civic Centre, designed by our firm founder, Raymond Moriyama! This public building was initially opened as the city hall of Scarborough, formerly a Toronto borough. It stands as a proud expression of Raymond’s extraordinary creative expertise, and an important example of modern architecture from the 1960s.
“The focus was on equality, inclusion of all people, because Scarborough, even at that time, had about 190 groups of people from different parts of the world”.
– Raymond Moriyama, speaking on the purpose of the project and his design vision.
We hope you enjoy looking through these throwback photos of the building as much as we do. Cheers to half a century!
