The Wood Whisperer – Mass Timber Construction

MTA’s Carol Phillips and Phil Silverstein recently contributed to an enlightening article on mass timber building projects, practices, and trends released by Better Builder Magazine. Our project, the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) New Headquarters and Multi-Tenant building is discussed as a case study.

The writing focuses on the efforts of Steven Street, Wood WORKS! Executive Director (Canadian Wood Council). His passion for efficient and sustainable wood design stems from a long-lasting connection to the construction industry. Steven’s ultimate goal is to “increase the use of wood products in construction projects”.

“There are many benefits [to mass timber construction], the most significant of which is the carbon sequestering nature of the material along with the renewability”.
– Carol Phillips, OSSTF Partner-in-Charge
