Winter Reading Week

We hope everyone is making the best of their Winter Reading week! It is an important time for post-secondary students to catch up on studies, and focus on both mental and physical health.

Pictured here is the Humber College Student Welcome & Resource Centre, completed in 2016 by Moriyama Teshima Architects in Toronto, Ontario. The facility is the campus’ new public face on busy Lake Shore Boulevard; an identifiable landmark and gathering place that celebrates the Humber experience. Through material choices including a highly transparent glazed street facade and tubular metal screens, the project successfully engages the public realm, the surrounding natural environment, and mediates the sites’ past, present, and future as a nexus of learning and discovery. The design objectives for the Welcome Centre and Athletic Centre included supporting social engagement, wellbeing, and academic success among a diverse student body that has grown by 50% within the last decade.
