Today is International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples – a date to recognize the achievements and contributions of Indigenous people across the globe. This event is especially poignant to us at Moriyama & Teshima Architects this year, as we are currently in the Design Development phase of the Mukwa Waakaa’igan Indigenous Centre of Cultural Excellence at Algoma University.
We want to thank Archinect for sharing the following article about the project, a collaboration with Smoke Architecture. Now the winner of a ReThinking the Future Award, an Architizer A+ People’s Choice Award, and a World Architecture Festival WAFX Award, this extraordinary facility will serve as a place of healing, learning, and gathering through cultural preservation and transformation.
