West Memorial Building Steel Topping-Off Ceremony

The West Memorial Building Rehabilitation project team gathered on site for a ceremony celebrating the hoisting of the final piece of structural steel! A major modernization and restoration of a Classified Federal Heritage Building, this iconic landmark is located in downtown Ottawa. The particular steel member, which was lifted on Monday, is the last portion to be set in place in the east courtyard skylight frame.

MTA’s Emmanuelle van Rutten, David Stone, and Carolyn Gillespie, on behalf of Regenerate 344 (Moriyama Teshima Architects + Kasian Architecture in Joint Venture) were joined by representatives from Public Services and Procurement Canada, EllisDon, and Adjeleian Allen Rubeli. Our team is excited for this major milestone on one of the largest current public sector infrastructure projects in the country.

“The new skylights for the WMB will house the Supreme Court and the Grand Hall – this last piece marks a turning point for the construction of the WMB.”
– Emmanuelle van Rutten, Moriyama Teshima Architects
