Place des Arts Selected as Jury Winner in Architizer A+Awards!

Place des Arts is the Jury Selection Winner of the Architizer A+Awards program, in the Architecture +Teamwork category! This project, designed by Moriyama Teshima Architects (MTA) and Yallowega Bélanger Salach Architecture (now known as Bélanger Salach Architecture (BSA)), represents a true collaborative endeavour on all fronts.

The client, comprised of seven member arts organizations in the region, and surrounding community in Sudbury wanted to participate in the design process with deliberate meaning – to understand, conceive, dream, and inhabit the possibilities of Place des Arts as a work of collective art. What resulted was meaningful dialogue between the design team that would guide the architectural vision of the building. MTA and BSA together produced a building design that serves as a unified cultural hub, sensitively responding to the character of the cityscape while evoking the history and natural elements of Northern Ontario through calculated choices of materiality, pattern, and texture.
